C. L. HAVERDINK *** WINDING OAKS GLASS

USASA Junior Program Auction Donation!
Thank you Cathy & Alexandra Haverdink, TreeSong Australian Shepherds!
They have donated a molten kiln fired layered glass plate enhanced by hand applied 24 Kt gold.

C. L. Haverdink, the owner and designer of Winding Oaks Glass, has worked with the many facets of art glass design over the past twenty years in her West Michigan studio.
Along with her unique line of leaded stained glass accent pieces, she has also designed and fabricated larger scale art glass installations for windows and custom cabinetry.

In 1996, she ventured into the fascinating world of molten kiln-fired glass.  Each of the “hot glass” pieces is a unique art work which is the  culmination of  many  layers of  glass
which  have been carefully selected and  fired to  exacting  temperatures in excess of 1800 degrees.  Each piece will frequently will be fired repeatedly ten to twelve times with
additional layers of glass being added and manipulated for each firing. Firing times for the glass plates and bowls will frequently total 300-400 hours per piece.

With rich iridescent colors and a translucent glistening texture, the kiln-fired glass has a look and feel all its own.  Many pieces are enhanced by hand applied 24 Kt gold which
is fired into the surface of the glass. A visual treat, each piece contains unique reflections of the artist’s hand.  The seeds of air encased in the glass are reminders of the liquid
state the glass has undergone during its transformation into beautiful glass art.  Small variations in the glass are the beauty marks that give fired glass its unmistakable allure.
Each piece of glass art which emerges from the Winding Oaks Glass Studio is skillfully created to produce an heirloom to be enjoyed for generations to come.

The artist’s background includes sitting under the instruction of some of the leading glass artists in the United States, including Gil Reynolds, Bill Klopsch, and Phil Teefy.
